Keynote Speakers:
Aaron Anderson,
President, Brandes Associates, Inc.
Aaron Anderson is the President of Brandes Associates, Inc., a commercial technology firm based in Camarillo, California. Brandes Associates specializes in software development, cybersecurity, and systems engineering for the defense, aerospace, and intelligence sectors. Aaron holds a BA from UC Santa Barbara and an MBA from UC Riverside. With over 20 years of experience in the technology sector, Aaron is known for his strategic vision and ability to lead teams to success. He has a proven track record of driving business growth, implementing major technology innovations and delivering high-quality engineering solutions to both government and commercial partners At Brandes Associates, Inc., he has expanded its service offerings and increased its customer base to expand its software products. He is currently leading the company’s efforts in integrating AI systems with corporate operations and agile-based software development environments. Aaron is a member of InfraGard, the partnership between the FBI and private sector, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Outside of his professional commitments, he volunteers and supports work with families with children on the Autism Spectrum, with a focus on inclusion and accessibility.
Vlad Vaiman, Ph.D.
Professor, School of Management, California Lutheran University
Vlad Vaiman is a Professor at the School of Management of California Lutheran University and a visiting professor at several premier universities around the world. He previously held academic and administrative positions at Reykjavik University in Iceland and FH Joanneum University in Austria. He received his PhD from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland and his MBA from the University of Wyoming, USA. Having published more than 90 academic papers, book chapters, and editorials, Dr. Vaiman is widely regarded as one of the leading international scholars in the field of talent management.  Dr. Vaiman has also published seven very successful books on managing talent both in organizations and at a country level, as well as several academic and practitioner-oriented articles in talent management and international HRM.  His work has appeared in such well-respected academic outlets as the Academy of Management Learning & Education, Academy of Management Perspectives, Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, and others.  He was also a founding editor-in-chief and is currently the Chief Editorial Consultant of the European Journal of International Management (EJIM), an ISI/SSCI indexed publication (www.ejim-global.org).  Dr. Vaiman is a founder, organizer, and a leading co-chair of the EIASM (www.eiasm.org) Workshops on Talent Management, where in 12 years, he has been able to build a strong global community of scholars and practitioners working in the area.  His 20+ year consulting practice comprises projects in talent management, expatriate selection, strategic international management, and leadership development in a variety of organizations across the industries and national boundaries.  Dr. Vaiman is a highly sought-after speaker – he is often invited to speak on both professional and academic matters to a number of global corporations and highly acclaimed universities around the world

With over two decades of experience in technology project management and business analysis across multiple industries, Shafia has mastered the art of leading and implementing concurrent technology projects in dynamic, fast-paced environments. Her expertise in software development, utilizing a variety of methodologies, has consistently driven successful project outcomes and fostered innovation. Currently serving as the Vice President of HR and Admin Technology at Pennymac, Shafia oversees the selection, implementation, and maintenance of HR systems. She ensures the seamless integration and operation of technology solutions that support organizational goals. Shafia collaborates closely with senior executives to align HR and administrative strategies with broader business objectives, promoting the adoption of new technologies to enhance efficiencies. Shafia holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and an Executive MBA from California Lutheran University, underscoring her strong educational foundation and commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. Beyond her professional achievements, Shafia actively contributes to her community by serving on the board of Camarillo Evening Toastmasters, where she shares her expertise and passion for effective communication and leadership.
Chris Meissner,
President, Meissner Corporation (USA)
As the visionary founder and president of Meissner Corporation, established in 1989 and headquartered in Camarillo, Chris has steered the company to the forefront of global advancements in microfiltration, tangential flow filtration, and single-use systems. With manufacturing facilities in Camarillo, Ireland, and strategic sales offices in Europe and Asia, the company is a key player enabling bioprocessing and drug manufacturing. Currently overseeing a $250 million expansion in Athens, Georgia, set to create 1700 jobs over the next 7 years, Chris Meissner continues to drive innovation in the Life Science sector. Beyond his corporate achievements, Mr. Meissner is actively engaged in various local organizations, exemplifying his commitment to community development: - Board member of St. John’s Seminary since 2010 - Board member of Economic Development Collaborative, Ventura County (EDC-VC) since 1998 - CSU Channel Islands Foundation Board of Directors since 2015 - Chair of the CSU Channel Islands Science Advisory Board since 2017. Recognized for his outstanding contributions, Chris Meissner has received prestigious awards, including the 2018 Camarillo "Man of the Year" and the 2015 Community and Business Leader of the Year Award from the Business and Technology Partnership. A devoted family man, Mr. Meissner resides in Camarillo, actively participating in community initiatives and pursuing his passions for backpacking, hiking, skiing, and mountain biking. Chris's multifaceted endeavors embody his dedication to both professional excellence and community enrichment.
Andrew Powers,
City Manager, The City of Thousand Oaks
Andrew Powers (Drew), a native of North Carolina, has nearly 25 years in local government experience in cities spanning the East and West coasts. He currently serves as City Manager for the City of Thousand Oaks, California, an agency he joined in 2007. As the organization’s chief executive, he provides leadership and oversight of municipal operations for one of California’s most highly regarded cities. Thousand Oaks is home to 127,000 and serves as headquarters to numerous life science and technology companies. With a team of over 500 employees and an annual Operating and Capital Improvement Budget in excess of $200 million, his team and the Thousand Oaks City Council have made major strides in responding to the housing crisis, building a nationally recognized biotechnology cluster, and addressing homelessness. Andrew holds a BS degree from North Carolina State University and a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration from California Lutheran University, where he also serves as an adjunct faculty member. On a personal note, Andrew and his wife Ashley spend much of their free time with their six-year-old daughter Sonny and enjoy surfing, hiking, and exploring the globe.

Susan Lundeen,
Chief People Officer, Allogene Therapeutics
Susan (Susie) Lundeen is the Chief People Officer of Allogene. Susie has held leadership roles in the full life cycle of global human resources, talent acquisition, operations, mergers and acquisitions, and business expansion in several biotechnology companies. Previously, she was with Unity Biotechnology where she served as Chief Human Resources Officer for six years. Prior to Unity, Susie was Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Kythera Biopharmaceuticals until its acquisition by Allergan, where she was responsible for designing and implementing all people systems supporting the company, from early product development to drug approval and eventual commercial launch. Earlier in her career, Susie held various positions at Amgen, including an expatriate assignment to support the build-out of Amgen’s worldwide distribution facility in the Netherlands. She also served as Strategic HR Business Partner for Research & Development, and ultimately served as Senior Director of Human Resources responsible for Strategic Staffing and Succession Planning. Susie received a BA in Psychology and Business Administration from California Lutheran University and is a trustee on the University’s Board of Regents.
